What is the Gottman Assessment?

The Gottman Assessment is a powerful research-based self-assessment that measures relationship satisfaction, providing an in-depth analysis of strengths and weaknesses and recommendations for improvement. The Gottman Assessment uses the Gottman Method, created by world-renowned psychologists Drs. John and Julie Gottman, to provide evidence-based insights into your relationship.

Do I have to take the Gottman Assessment with my partner?

No, you have the option to take the Gottman Assessment with or without your partner. You can take the Gottman Assessment alone to learn about yourself and your relationship, or you can invite your partner to take the Gottman Assessment as well, even after starting your own self-assessment. After you log in and invite your partner, they can access the Gottman Assessment by registering on Gottman Connect. Once they register, they will have the option to complete the self-assessment to receive their own custom relationship results.

How long does it take to complete the Gottman Assessment self-assessment?

The self-assessment is composed of five sections measuring every aspect of your relationship. It takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Do I have to complete the Gottman Assessment in one sitting?

No, you can take a break at any time and pick right back up where you left off.

What happens after I take the Gottman Assessment?

After you take the Gottman Assessment, you will receive an overall relationship satisfaction score, as well as your own personalized results containing 9 levels and 15 subsections, each explaining a critically important dimension of your relationship. You will also have the option to review and purchase the custom Gottman Coach multimedia programs recommended to you based on your results.

How does the Gottman Assessment analyze and explain my relationship?

The Gottman Assessment uses the Sound Relationship House Theory, created by world-renowned psychologists Drs. John and Julie Gottman. The Sound Relationship House is a foundational concept within Gottman Method and has been used successfully with hundreds of thousands of couples all over the world to help them understand and improve their relationships.

Will my partner and I receive separate results?

Yes, you and your partner complete your own self-assessment and receive separate results based on your unique answers.

Is the Gottman Assessment designed to be used in a clinical setting?

No, the Gottman Assessment is a self-assessment designed for couples and individuals who want to understand their relationship’s strengths and weaknesses.

What if my partner and I decide we need to see a therapist after taking the Gottman Assessment?

You can find a Gottman-trained therapist on The Gottman Referral Network. The Gottman Referral Network puts you directly in touch with experienced clinicians who use Gottman relationship-building techniques.

If I have purchased Gottman Relationship Coach programs, can I still take the Gottman Assessment?

Yes, past Gottman Relationship Coach purchasers can benefit from taking the Gottman Assessment. The Gottman Assessment will give you a full snapshot of the state of your relationship based on a detailed self-assessment, then provides recommendations for improvement.
